GUIDELINES, PROGRAM AND PROCEDURES

ACTIVE ENROLLMENT

General: $1200 - PRCM Students: $800

 

Individual Lessons
  • All Active enrollees will receive a minimum of four (4) individual composition sessions: one (1) with four (4) of our guest composers.
  • Each session will have a minimum duration of 45 minutes.
  • Students may send any material, such as scores and recordings, they may deem appropriate prior to the summit for these lessons. All material must be sent in PDF format and/or stream or download links to alumni@sonamens.com before June 3, 2020.
Master Classes
  • Active enrollees will attend all five (5) master classes imparted by our guest composers.
  • All students will receive a class in this format with the guest composer with whom they do not have an individual lesson. The student will present one musical work and discuss it with the professor.
  • Each master class has a duration of two (2) hours, in which four (4) students will present and discuss their work.
  • Enrollees mus send all material (scores, audio or video files and any accompanying text) regarding the work hay will present before June 3, 2020.
Rehearsals, Concerts and Recording
  • Each Active student may submit a musical piece to be rehearsed and performed in one of five (5) concerts.
  • Each student will receive a recording of their piece.
  • Active enrollees will work with the assigned musicians for a minimum of two (2) rehearsals of a minimum duration of 45 minutes and a minimum of 15 minutes at the Dress Rehearsal, before the concert in which their work will be performed.
  • The allocation of musical soloists and groups will be done in the order of enrollment confirmation (see “Admission” below). Once admitted applicants confirm their enrollment, they will be asked to relay preferences for the following generic formations:
      1. Solo or instrumental duo
      2. Standard chamber group (3 to 5 musicians)
      3. Ensemble (6 musicians).
  • Options will be offered pending availability and/or a group or soloist will be assigned.
  • Each submitted word may not exceed the approximate duration of eight (8) minutes. All materials must be finished and submitted in PDF format to alumni@sonamens.com before May 21, 2020.
  • Contact between students and musicians will be established as soon as performers are assigned.
  • All active enrollees will have access to all the concerts of the summit, which will be the following:
      1. Álea 21: conference-concert (Student works will NOT be performed in this concert)
      2. Joseph Pereira: percussion (Available percussion will be announced)
      3. Borinquen Brass: 2 trumpets, 1 horn, 1 trombone, 1 bass trombone and 1 percussionist (Available percussion will be announced)
      4. Alberto Rodríguez Ortiz: guitar (Combination with other single instruments will be available)
      5. B3:Brouwer Trio: violin, violoncello and piano.
      6. Sinfonietta del Sur: flute, clarinet, violin, cello, harp and percussion (Available percussion will be announced)
Workshops
  • Active students will attend and will have the opportunity to participate in workshops with a duration of 60 to 90 minutes:

      1. Percussion Workshop by Joseph Pereira
      2. Harp Workshop by Elisa Torres
      3. Improvisation Workshop by Alfonso Fuentes
      4. Rehearsal Workshop by Mauricio Sotelo
Seminar Talks
  • Enrollees will have the opportunity to participate in three (3) seminar talks with a duration of 60 to 90 minutes.
  • Each will feature one moderator and two guests.
  • Students may intervene in an organized manner.
  • Seminar descriptions will be announced soon.
Lectures
  • Du Yun, Tania León, Roberto Sierra and Mauricio Sotelo will each impart a lecture, of 60 to 90 minutes, on their music and the relation with the summit’s central theme.

Evening Gatherings
  • There will four (4) post-concert informal evening gatherings featuring live music, food and drink.

    Featured artists will be announced soon.

      1. Copies of two (2) musical works composed by the applicant. There are requisites regarding the musical works.

  • Applicants that wish to apply for financial aid must fill out the online financial aid form with the required information. Financial aid will be awarded based on merit and financial need.
  • Admission
    • Criteria for admission is based on non-competing aptitude. Applicants that are deemed fit for admission may be provisionally admitted at any time before the application deadline.
    • There is a maximum quota of 20 Active Enrollment students.
    • Applications will cease to be accepted once enrollment is full.
    • Applicants that are admitted provisionally will be duly informed and must confirm their enrollment by paying a minimum of $200 before 15 days past the application deadline. The remaining tuition must be payed before June 9, 2020.
    • Applicants that confirm their enrollment will immediately begin the following:
        1. Instrumental selection and assignment process for their composition that will be rehearsed, performed and recorded. 
        2. Query for composition teacher assignments, spoken languages and accommodations selection.
    • Once performer assignment is complete, communication will be established with the assigned performers.
    • Completed scores and parts must be submitted to alumni@sonamens.com before May 21, 2020.
    • All material for master classes and individual lessons must be sent to alumni@sonamens.com before June 3, 2020.

    Admission
    • Any applicant may be admitted at any time, saving priority for students enrolled at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music and applicants liked with the musical profession, especially music composition.
    • Admitted applicants will be duly informed and must confirm their enrollment with payment of a minimum of 30% of tuition before June 3, 2020.
    • The remaining balance for tuition is due by June 9, 2020.
